Plastic Injection Purging Compound Preventative Maintenance

USING PEKUTHERM® PURGING COMPOUND

FOR PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

1. Determine when the production material first begins to degrade or generate carbon specks. For instance, after a thorough purge you begin to run production. If for several days later specks appear, you could conclude that degraded conditions now exist.

2. Pekutherm® should be used just prior to the degrade or carbon speck occurrence.

3. In most situations, a ½ barrel flush with Pekutherm® two to three times a week should inhibit carbon build-up. Some molders only need to purge once a week, while others purge once daily. The frequency has a lot to do with how sensitive your production material is.

4. Purging can be done by breaking into the production run or at some other down time. The host production material can be used to follow out the Pekutherm® and production can resume right away.

5. As always, refer to the Pekutherm® Purging directions while purging. Many shops have greatly reduced production fall out by using this method. Also, tool, color and material changes will be faster because there will be little to no build-up of laminated material in the compression zone of the screw.
